God alone is our help and has been since the beginning. Rev. Alvin Boggs had such a love for the mountains and for his people. Living Waters was born out of a heart to spread the Good News of the God he loved with the people he loved.
Every family member played a huge role in the foundation and day to day work at Living Waters. Living Waters is a testament to God's faithfulness and provision of all of our needs according to His Riches and Glory through Jesus Christ our Lord. Alvin was the original Administrator and Reading Teacher. Ruth, the love of his life, was bookkeeper and Spelling teacher. She was always willing to take time and help in any way she could. Titus Jearl, Alvin and Ruth's eldest son, was a supporter/adviser/mentor/and History Teacher. History came alive when he taught and many lives were changed because of his influence. Titus Jearl's wife Debbie Frank Boggs spent many mornings helping with Reading, and Phonics for every grade along with many behind the scenes tasks. Debbie's mom, Helen Henthorn (or Grandma Helen as she was known) gave many hours of service by tutoring students who needed special attention. Connie Boggs, Alvin and Ruth's oldest daughter, served as Principal of Living Waters and Teacher of the upper grades. She graced every chapel service with her beautiful piano playing and directed every performance, play and program. Sharon Boggs Smith, Alvin and Ruth's youngest daughter, fulfilled her childhood dream of being a teacher. For 27 years she taught the younger students at Living Waters Christian School. Sharon's husband Ken Smith was and still is a "behind the scenes" supporter and the "go to guy". He works on campus, and is willing to help whenever and wherever he is needed. Each of the Boggs/Smith children were directly involved in the classroom experience. Titus Wayne completed K-4-8th grade before moving on to Mt Carmel High School and Kentucky Mountain Bible College. After finishing his Batchlor's Degree in Pastoral Ministries Titus Wayne is currently a Ordaned Elder in the Church of the Nazarene and is a lead pastor at Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene in Ashtabula, Ohio. Nathan Alvin followed and experienced K-4-8th before going on to Victory Road Christian School and Kentucky Mountain Bible College. Nathan is currently the Director at Laurel Mission, continuing in his father's footsteps. Hannah Joy followed shortly after, and was at Living Waters from K-4-6th. She pursued her education at Victory Road, Kentucky Mountain Bible College, then Asbury College. She is a mother of two married to her Paul Poe and they live with their two children in Elizabeth Town Kentucky. Many students came, experienced, and benefitted from the years of ministry. So many friends and supporters were and still are instrumental in giving both in talents and funding for such a needed ministry in the Mountains of Eastern Kentucky. As our emphasis has shifted slightly to include the older generations, we continue to seek ways to serve, and make a difference in our little corner of the world. We are so thankful for every kind and generous heart, and value your continued prayers and involvement as we seek to serve JESUS and Others. We would be amiss if we did not mention two, very special, talented, gifted Christian ladies who each came and served in a teaching capacity for a couple years. Miss Zell and Miss Stevenson were direct answers to prayers, and filled in beautifully. |
